01/05/2024

Decorating outdoor spaces like our terrace and garden with natural materials creates the perfect condition to connect with nature daily and live harmoniously within the "paradise" we've created.

Moreover, in recent years, the trend of "Natural Living" has been gaining ground, which can easily be combined with other decorating styles such as boho, ethnic, or urban jungle, for more character and uniqueness.

But when we talk about natural materials, do you only think of wood and plants? If so, then you must read the following list of all the natural "gems" that we can incorporate into outdoor decoration with our imagination.

Wood: Wood is one of the most popular natural materials for decorating outdoor spaces. Its natural texture, warmth, and weather resistance make it ideal for use in both indoor and outdoor settings. It can be used for benches, tables, chairs, pergolas, and other furniture, as well as for floors, wall cladding, and decorative details.

Extra Tip: Ensure that wooden furniture or surfaces are under shade to withstand the test of time. Also, if you keep your furniture outside all year round, remember to oil them with wood oil. Be careful! Full waterproof varnish is not recommended as it prevents the wood from breathing.

Stone: Stone offers a natural and durable way to decorate outdoor spaces. Whether it's the entire structure, a small or large garden, a terrace, or a courtyard, using stone in decoration enhances natural beauty. It can be used for pathways, walls, stairs, paving, and various other structures. Nowadays, the use of stone is not only recommended for traditional buildings but also for modern buildings of any use, homes, villas, hotels, and even entire buildings with a minimalist character.

Baskets & Branches: Natural baskets and various branches can be used for decorating outdoor spaces, offering a rustic feel and aesthetics. Add a basket to the balcony for a simple decorative touch, decorate your terrace and pots with straw baskets, and enhance every dull corner with panels and baskets. The new trend in lighting also encourages the use of the basket-hat style as a decorative lighting element, simultaneously serving as a material that can withstand the sea and salt.

Plants & FlowersAdding plants and flowers creates a natural and fresh atmosphere in the outdoor space. They can be placed in pots, natural hanging baskets, or even planted in the ground to create a green garden.

Extra Tip: Large trees can provide additional shade and coolness.

Bonus Tip: If you're currently designing your garden, don't forget to install power outlets in the soil to illuminate and highlight the green paradise you'll create.

Rocks and Boulders: Natural rocks and boulders can be used to create interesting structures and aesthetic elements in outdoor spaces. Moreover, the use of the stone element can add a unique charm to garden decoration and composition. You can place them around plants or flowers, in rhythmic patterns, or even use them to create decorative sculptures. Rock gardens may be considered somewhat old-fashioned, and you might think they only fit classic houses, but they're an all-time classic!

Bamboo: Bamboo is a natural material that can be used for constructions such as pergolas, as well as for garden furniture. Bamboo furniture, like natural wood, should be kept in a shady place to preserve it as much as possible and in better condition. However, shading from bamboo can be set up and dismantled according to the season, providing a natural character, especially on islands and coastal buildings, offering the ultimate coastal look.

Rope: Rope made from natural jute is a material that can be used in various ways in garden decoration. Its natural texture and aesthetics give a rustic touch and create a unique contrast with the green background of the garden. Hang pots, decorate your plants, or use them on your furniture! We often use it in weaving chairs for a more natural result and a sense of lightness and effortlessness.

What about sustainability?

In recent years, regardless of decorating styles, the number one trend is sustainability and the use of environmentally friendly materials. All the natural materials mentioned above are sustainable, renewable, and recyclable, often sourced from local sources, reducing the need for transportation and CO2 emissions. Thus, we can all contribute to environmental preservation and reducing our ecological footprint... with style!
